CDMX2INS: A utility to assist in installing CDMX2Dor, the premium CDRom
Door. (c)1994 Robert E. Lee 1:232/31 New Century BBS (309)797-6027
WHAT is CDMX2INS?
This is a utility designed to speed up your installation of CDMX2dor,
the premium cdrom door. It will allow you to:
o inspect and change your various paths, .CNF file(s),
.CFG file(s), and .LST file(s) easily in a menu-driven
environment.
HOW to use CDMX2INS?
This utility is to be used AFTER you have read CDMX2DOR.DOC! It
is not intended to be a means of circumventing understanding the
CDMX2DOR.DOC information as a completely self-contained installation
program, but IS to be used in supplement to an informed reader
that has finished reading CDMX2DOR.DOC. After you have read the
doc file, start this program with a command line option to work
on installing the door.
You must start the installer (cdmx2ins.exe) in the subdirectory
where you have unzipped your CDMX2 door files. Start the door
with this command line:
cdmx2ins cdmx2dor.cnf
If you are using a different .CNF file then this, then specify
that name in the place of the above "cdmx2dor.cnf." The program
will keep you informed. Remember this installation program is
a supplemental utility to an informed reader's installation
activity and not intended to be run by an "unread" cdmx2dor user.
WHAT can I do when I run the program?
When you start the program successfully, you will be eventually
taken to a main menu that will appear as a "green desktop" from
where you may do various things in CDMX2Dor initial installation
or CDMX2Dor changes to installations-already-done. At the green
desktop you will find the following options:
(1) DOS
Allow you to temporarily drop to DOS; you may do whatever
you need in DOS here, and then type EXIT to return to
CDMX2ins.
(2) SUBDIRECTORIES
Allows you to view and/or change several subdirectory
paths that CDMX2Dor needs to know to run successfully.
These subdirectories are:
(a) Door.sys Subdirectory
Here you may view or change the path to the subdirect-
ory where CDMX2Dor expects to find and read your
door.sys dropfile. The path you specify here will
be written to the first line of the .CNF file you
specified in the command line when starting up
CDMX2Ins.exe.
(b) CDMX2Dor's own Subdirectory
Here you may view or change the path to the subdirect-
ory where CDMX2Dor will expect to find itself. It is
imperative that if you change this path that you
copy all your CDMX2Dor files to that subdirectory.
(c) CDMX2Dor's temporary Subdirectory(ies)
Here you may view or change the root path to the
temporary node-aware subdirectories that CDMX2Dor
uses. CDMX2Dor is multinode-aware, so there is a
need for a temporary subdirectory FOR EACH NODE of
your system.
If you should decide to change the root temporary
subdirectory path to, for example,
C:\max\temp\test
and you have 2 nodes, then you MUST have ALREADY made
a subdirectory called c:\max\temp\test. If you do
not, CDMX2Ins will stop and tell you to make it and
ask you to restart your installation. If you already
have c:\max\temp\test created, CDMX2INS will ask you
how many nodes you have, and will then automatically
create your node-aware temporary subdirectories, e.g.,
the program will make, if you have 2 nodes:
c:\max\temp\0test
c:\max\temp\1test
c:\max\temp\2test
and automatically use the appropriate subdirectory
dependant on which node is running the door (as is
specified in line #4 of the door.sys that was specified
for reading by the particular .CNF file used to start
CDMX2Dor.
(d) CDMX2Dor's offline HOLD Subdirectory
This option allows you to view or change the HOLD
subdirectory that is used by CDMX2Dor to hold files
that users have requested with the Offline Request
feature of CDMX2Dor and that you have filled for that
requestor using FILLFREQ.EXE (part of the CDMX2Dor
archieve).
(e) Quit to desktop
Selecting this will return you to the green desktop.
(3) CNF file
This option allows you to view and/or change parts of your
CDMX2Dor.CNF file. The one you will be allowed to see and
change will be the one you specified in the command-line start-
up of CDMX2INS.exe. For example, if you start CDMX2INS.exe
up with:
cdmx2ins cdmx2dor.cnf
then you will be allowed to view and/or change cdmx2dor.cnf.
If you started CDMX2INS.exe with:
cdmx2ins cdmxnod2.cnf
then you will be allowed to view and/or change cdmxnod2.cnf.
To view your particular cdmx2dor.CNF file, just select menu
option (1). To change your cdmx2dor.CNF file, select menu
option (2). To change a particular line in your cdmx2dor.CNF
file, enter the line number and then change appropriately.
(4) CFG file
This option allows you to view and/or change parts of your
CDMX2Dor.CFG file. The one you will be allowed to see and
change will be the one you specified in the last line of your
command-line-specified .CNF file. For example, if you start
CDMX2INS.exe up with:
cdmx2ins cdmx2dor.cnf
and the last line of cdmx2dor.cnf specifies CDMX2DOR.CFG,
then you will be allowed to view and/or change cdmx2dor.CFG.
If you started CDMX2INS.exe with:
cdmx2ins cdmxnod2.cnf
and the last line of cdmxnod2.cnf specifies CDMXNOD2.CFG,
then you will be allowed to view and/or change cdmxnod2.cfg.
To view your particular cdmx2dor.CFG file, just select menu
option (1). To change your cdmx2dor.CFG file, select menu
option (2). To change a particular line in your cdmx2dor.CFG
file, enter the line number and then change appropriately.
(5) DOOR.SYS
This option allows you to view and/or change parts of your
DOOR.SYS file. The one you will be allowed to see and
change will be the one you specified in the FIRST line of your
command-line-specified .CNF file. For example, if you start
CDMX2INS.exe up with:
cdmx2ins cdmx2dor.cnf
and the FIRST line of cdmx2dor.cnf specifies C:\cdbob,
then you will be allowed to view and/or change the door.sys
found in C:\cdbob subdirectory.
If you started CDMX2INS.exe with:
cdmx2ins cdmxnod2.cnf
and the FIRST line of cdmxnod2.cnf specifies C:\max\misc,
then you will be allowed to view and/or change the door.sys
found in C:\max\misc subdirectory.
To view your particular door.sys file, just select menu
option (1). To change your door.sys file, select menu
option (2). To change a particular line in your door.sys
file, enter the line number and then change appropriately.
(6) KEYS
This option will give you information on how to register
CDMX2Dor if you have not already registered the door.
(7) LST file
This option allows you to view and/or change parts of your
CDSONLIN.LST file.
To view the CDSONLIN.LST file, just select menu
option (1). To change your CDSONLIN.LST file, select menu
option (2). To change a particular line in your CDSONLIN.LST
file, enter the line number and then change appropriately.
You will enter the control line for a particular CD in your
CDSONLIN.LST file one (1) piece of data at a time:
(a) The name of your CD
(b) The security level for your particular CD
(c) The .LST file that contains specific info about your
particular CD's paths (you will or have generated this
file manually or may have used diagnose.zip utilties
to develop this particular .LST file). You may also
have called New Century BBS to pick up a pre-made
.LST file for your particular CD (we have a number of
other-user-made .LST files for download here).
(d) The online/offline/readonly status of your CD
(e) The Drive (X:) specification of your CD Drive
(f) The High Security lock file name or a "*" if there
is no high security lock file for this CD.
(8) QUIT
This option QUITS CDMX2INS installation utility.
PROBLEMS?
This installation utility is NOT a replacement for an informed
installer. You should read CDMX2DOR.DOC before you run this
program so you know what you are doing. If you make a serious
mistake, the install program will quit and tell you to go read
the .DOC file. IF you are totally confounded and really need
to talk to me voice, I can be reached voice at (309)797-0098.
If you want to leave me email, call New Century BBS (309)797-6027
and I'll respond. You can send netmail to 1:232/31 if you are
FIDOnet or can gate your netmail to FIDOnet.
Thanks!
